November 17, 2024

The purpose of the D4 highway was to alleviate traffic in Bratislava, making it one of the most expensive projects in the country's history. However, it is only partially usable because the essential D1 and D4 junction is missing. This situation is about to change. The National Highway Company plans the connection of D4 and D1 by the end of November, which will result in traffic restrictions. According to the company's director, Filip Macháček, they are currently working on the road expansion and renovation of previous sections, while preparations for the connection are also underway. Some milestones, however, necessitate restrictions. The branch from Jarovce towards Trnava will be connected to the D1 between November 22 and 24.

Meanwhile, about 100 traffic signs will be installed and 25 kilometers of road markings will be made. The section at Zlaté piesky will be closed up to Senec. Between November 29 and December 1, the branch leading from Trnava to Rača is planned to be connected. Traffic will be restricted on these days while the signs and road markings are executed. Afterwards, the bypass around Bratislava will also be accessible from Trnava. The opening of the Triblavina junction will also contribute to the improvement of traffic, which drivers can use sooner than the previously planned date. Thus, the traffic situation around Bratislava may significantly improve. The complete D1 and D4 junction will be ready by 2025. According to the responsible minister, increasing tolls are expected on the Prístavný bridge after full operation begins, to encourage drivers to use the D4 instead. Although the minister's optimism is evident, the difficulties surrounding the project can be considered a setback. For many years, the bypass did not fulfill its purpose, while significant money was paid by the state to the contractor. Despite all this, the current opening is expected to benefit the capital's traffic.
