MOTORWAY VIGNETTE Switzerland

To use Swiss motorways, it is necessary to purchase an electronic e-vignette before entering any toll sections.

Motorways and expressways in Switzerland require payment of a toll, while secondary roads and main roads can be used free of charge.
The toll payment requirement applies to vehicles with a total weight of less than 3.5 tonnes.

* If you are travelling with a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes (such as a truck, bus, or heavy vehicle), please refer to the LSVA system for the necessary toll payment.

Types of e-vignettes and prices

The e-vignette is available for a single period:

• Annual e-vignette, valid until January 31 of each year, regardless of the date of purchase.

* If a vehicle under 3.5 tonnes tows a trailer, an additional toll must be paid for the trailer.

The system will display the toll calculation after entering the relevant information regarding the vehicle and the journey.

ℹ️ Online purchase and required details

The road usage fee is paid online. Registering the vehicle only takes a few minutes. The required information is as follows:

• Licence plate number
• Country code
• Email address
• Mobile phone number

When placing an order (registering a vehicle), you must provide the licence plate number and the country of registration, then select the start date and duration of the e-vignette validity.
The system will request both your email address and mobile phone number for contact purposes. Providing a mobile phone number is necessary because the confirmation link will also be sent via SMS, ensuring that you receive proof of purchase even if email delivery is unsuccessful for any reason.

After successful payment, you will receive a receipt and QR™ SMS code containing the vehicle identification details and the validity period of the purchased e-vignette.

⚠️ Warning regarding suspicious websites

Certain websites offer toll payment services while collecting bank card data, but do not provide a valid e-vignette, putting your card details at risk of unauthorized use.
Unsuspecting travellers may be disadvantaged in multiple ways: firstly, they do not receive a valid e-vignette—which could result in a fine—and furthermore, their card details may be misused.
It is recommended to avoid websites with poor or suspicious language.

⛔ Fines

The law clearly specifies the fines that can be expected if you use a toll motorway or expressway without valid payment:

• On-the-spot fine: if stopped by a police officer, the fine is 240 CHF
• Automated camera detection: if the violation is recorded by an automated camera system, the fine is 240 CHF

Here, through the customer portal, you can obtain the required road usage certificate online in just a few minutes, which will be registered centrally by the Bundesamt für Zoll und Grenzsicherheit.

Components of the registration service

With us, the e-vignette is available together with the Comfortia and Auxil services; their fee is part of the registration fee.

Under Comfortia, if you mistyped the details during the order, we will change the registration number, country code, vehicle category, destination country or start date of validity free of charge, once; the system checks obvious typing errors automatically and, if necessary, manually. At least 24 hours before the start of validity the order can be cancelled and the full amount refunded, except for the annual vignette.

Under Auxil, if you receive a fine for a reason related to the order, we provide legal assistance within 180 days of the order: we act as your authorised representative before the competent authority, submit an appeal, and request a payment extension or a reduction on equitable grounds. In justified cases we may also reimburse the fine, up to a maximum of EUR 300.
