Highways are being renewed under a comprehensive renovation plan, with the aim of MKIF Zrt. to bring motorways acquired the year before last to a uniform technical standard. According to the promise, works will halt during the summer peak season on the M7, but nevertheless, one million square meters of pavement will be renewed during this period. By May, one-fifth of the five-year plan, projected on a total of 500 kilometers, will be fulfilled with 870,000 square meters of pavement replaced.
The works are taking place on 33 sections of 5 different expressways, from the M1 to the M35. Since March, 18 bridges on the M7 have been renovated. Five sections of the M7 have also been renewed: at Aliga, Köröshegy, between Szemes and Lelle, at Sávoly, and Letenye. On the M3 motorway, 8 sections have been renewed in the areas of Füzesabony, Polgár, and Nyíregyháza, covering a total of 360,000 square meters, and 6 bridges have also been renovated. The leveling works are being done on nine expressways, affecting more than 500 kilometers of sections.
On the M35 motorway, works are underway between Debrecen and Józsa, as well as at the Ondód exit. On the M1, a total of 350,000 square meters of pavement will be replaced in the areas of Bábolna-Bőny, Bicske-Óbarok, Tata, Kisigmánd, and Győr, which corresponds to a length of about 100 kilometers when considering a single lane. There will be a halt in August to avoid disruptions to the heavier transit traffic.
Works are also underway on the M3, M30, M4, M8, M15, and M70. Overall, work needs to be done on 43 percent of the expressways covering 1237 kilometers, which were acquired by MKIF Zrt. in 2022 to achieve a uniform level.
