The Národná diaľničná spoločnosť (NDS) will start the construction of a noise barrier on the D2 highway from Monday, November 4th. Traffic jams frequently occur on the route leading to the capital, from the Záhoria area, where drivers can lose 30-40 minutes in traffic. In the event of an accident, these waiting times can increase by hours. However, starting from Monday, drivers should also expect additional traffic difficulties as the construction works for the noise barrier commence. On the section between the Sitina tunnel and Bory in Bratislava, the drainage system will also be improved. The NDS spokesperson, Tomáš Ferenčák, told the public service TV that the entire highway drainage system will be renewed.
The number of lanes will not be reduced, but they will be narrower, and the maximum permitted speed will be reduced to 80 km/h. The works will take place along a three-kilometer section. According to Ľuboš Kasala, manager of the Zelená vlna traffic news service, traffic will be slower in the narrowed lanes. Motorists should expect larger jams not only on the D2 highway but also on the bypass road between Lamač and Hodonínska. Residents of Lamač, who have been waiting for the noise barrier for more than a decade, often complain about loud traffic. Igor Polakovič, the mayor of Lamač, explained on the :24 news program that the wall will provide at least a partial solution on a section of the capital's highway. Increased noise levels have been particularly pronounced since the speed limit on the city highway was raised to 130 km/h. In certain areas, sound levels can reach 60-70 decibels, significantly exceeding the prescribed limit, especially at night.
