Certain free sections partially offset the situation as a new legislative amendment came into effect on August 1, 2024. This law allows for the toll-free use of certain highway sections, meaning that a valid e-vignette is not required for these segments. The aim of the project is to reduce the number of vehicles traveling within cities, thereby creating a greener environment. The proposal has already passed the consultation process. Overall, up to 100 kilometers of new sections will become free of charge. If we add this to the existing toll-free sections, a total of 200 kilometers of highway sections will be freely available to travelers. These sections are located near major cities.
Transport experts also positively evaluate this step. In their opinion, it can have a favorable impact on quality of life, noise levels, and emissions. However, the most significant advantage lies in the fact that most traffic will automatically be directed to the highway, resulting in a less congested city center.
