Important information for drivers: the second section of the R2 road between Košice, Šaca and Košické Oľšany will be opened later this year. The work is progressing according to the schedule, as confirmed by Jozef Ráž, the Minister of Transport. This week, he visited the site as part of the construction supervision day. "We hope that drivers will be able to drive on this beautiful new highway section by the end of this year," Jozef Ráž told the TASR agency. The new 14-kilometer highway in Eastern Slovakia will form part of the southern bypass of Košice. Currently, workers are finishing bridges, noise barriers, guardrails, and drainage systems.

Another highway in Eastern Slovakia It is important to note that according to the contract, the highway should be completed by the end of July. However, this is only one of the key deadlines. Following this, inspections and permitting procedures will follow. Drivers are expected to enjoy the new section of the expressway in the fall. The cost of this R2 section amounts to approximately 132 million euros, excluding VAT. An interesting fact is that the state still needs to complete the first, 7-kilometer-long section of the R2 road between Košice, Šaca and Košické Oľšany. Preparations are currently underway intensively. The R2 road will provide a connection between the D1 and R4 highways.

On the designated sections of the currently nearly completed segment, the maximum speed will be limited to 120 km/h, while the speed limit on other sections will be 100 km/h. The new expressway will start at the Košice-Juh junction, connecting to the existing R4 expressway that connects Košice and Milhosť. The route will end between Budimír and Bidovce, connecting to the D1 highway. The R2 highway will include the new Valaliky rest area, which will be accessible from both directions. As part of this construction project, engineers are working on the expansion of the Košice-Juh junction, as well as the construction of the new Krásna and Hrašovík junctions.
