Traffic has been opened on Section 3 of the A0 South Motorway, announced Cristian Pistol, CEO of the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR). Thanks to this, drivers can now travel uninterrupted from Constanța all the way to Curtea de Argeș, via the route connecting the A2, A0, and A1 motorways. The newly completed section is approximately 18 kilometers long and plays a key role in ensuring continuous traffic flow between the Sun Motorway (A2) and the Bucharest–Pitești (A1) motorway. Section 3 of the A0 South includes 15.465 kilometers of southern ring road and 2.5 kilometers from the northern ring, separated by the A1 motorway, along with a monumental overpass built over the A1 in the Ciorogârla area. As part of the development, four bridges, six overpasses, nine e-vignette crossings over the motorway, 46 smaller culverts, as well as two short rest areas and two service stations were constructed.
The Ministry of Transport, through CNAIR, has completed Section 3 of the A0 Bucharest South Motorway over a period of more than five years. The construction and design contract was signed in 2019, with a total timeframe of 42 months: one year for the design phase and the remaining 30 months allotted for construction works. Direct connectivity will soon be established between Craiova and the seaside as well. According to Ciprian Șerban, Minister of Transport, in a few weeks, with the connection of the DEx12 Craiova–Pitești expressway to the A1, a direct, uninterrupted motorway (e-vignette required) link will be created between Craiova and Constanța, stretching approximately 474 kilometers. “The commissioning of the new section is of significant national economic importance: it will considerably reduce transport time and costs for freight companies, improve traffic circulation around Bucharest, and provide key environmental benefits by reducing emissions caused by congestion and detours.”
The Minister added: “We are looking ahead – there is intensive work in progress on three sections of the A0 Northern Ring, with clear deadlines; the modernization of the Bucharest Ring Road and the ten radial road projects will complement the city’s core infrastructure. These investments will accelerate connections between historical regions, support exports, and reduce traffic congestion in the capital.”
