The announcement by MKIF Zrt. promises significant changes in Hungarian transportation starting from 2025. The most important developments include the construction of new expressways and the expansion of the M7 motorway, aiming to reduce travel time and increase travel comfort. The first major project will be the expansion of the M1 motorway, which will begin in September 2025.
During the project, a 2x3 lane + ITS system section will be created between the rest points, which will be completed by 2029. The expansion of the M7 motorway will start in 2027-2028, and concurrently the construction of the M200 road, which will connect Komárom to Székesfehérvár, will also begin. On the M7 motorway, the expansion target is the section between M0 and Szabadbattyán, where a 2x3+ITS lane will be established, while a 2x2+ITS lane will be built between Szabadbattyán and Balatonvilágos. The ITS lane (Intelligent Transport Lane) is a new concept that normally functions as an operational-hard shoulder but can also be used as a traffic lane in case of necessity, such as traffic jams or accidents.
The new road network plans include the M200, which will start from Komárom, extend through Székesfehérvár to Sárbogárd, and then continue as M8 to Kecskemét.
This development includes the expansion of more than 299 km of expressways and the construction of 278 km of new tracks. These ambitious developments not only increase the speed and comfort of transportation but also significantly contribute to improving transportation safety.
The plans of MKIF Zrt. can greatly facilitate road travel and ensure a modern and efficient transportation network for the country in the future.
