The highway renovations of this year have reached their halfway point.

The highway renovation works of this year have reached the halfway point, but in August, taking into account the increased transit traffic, no planned paving works will be carried out in either direction on the M1 and M7 highways, announced the Hungarian Concession Infrastructure Development Ltd (MKIF).

In its statement, the MKIF noted that no works have been carried out on the M7 between the M0 and Balatonvilágos on the side leading to Balaton since the start of the summer vacation. By August 1, the highway operator had replaced the aged, damaged pavement over more than 1.8 million square meters at 98 locations across the country. In addition to the M1 and M7, works were also carried out on the M3, M15, M30, and M35 highways, as well as on the M4 expressway. So far this year, a total of 480 kilometers of lanes have received new asphalt across the expressway network, and 72 bridges and overpasses, as well as 9 rest areas, have been refurbished in the country. For the pavement replacement, 300,000 tons of asphalt were used, and three-quarters of the works took place on the M3 and M7, where 1.4 million square meters of new asphalt were laid.

The leveling works are expected to continue until the end of November, early December. However, large-scale renovations can be expected in the coming years, which will result in the expansion of the M1, M3, and M7 highways.
