The highway police's strict inspections over the past week have uncovered a significant number of violations. As a result of the road checks carried out between August 26 and September 1, a total of 1,545 fines were imposed, and 93 driver's licenses were revoked. The police highlighted speeding as the most common violation, for which 373 drivers were fined. However, penalties were not only imposed for speeding: 141 drivers were fined for failing to use seat belts. An additional 47 fines were issued for technical defects, and 14 for vehicles lacking a valid periodic technical inspection (ITP). Special attention was also given to professional drivers: fines were imposed in 442 cases for violating rules regarding driving and rest times, as well as the use of tachographs. Five drivers were fined for driving under the influence of alcohol, action was taken in 33 cases for unjustified stopping in the emergency lane, and one fine was issued for an illegal overtaking maneuver. In addition to speeding, there were other reasons for the revocation of licenses, leaving a total of 93 drivers without a driving license, 31 of which were due to speeding. Furthermore, 63 vehicle registration certificates were withdrawn. During the inspections, the police also identified 13 criminal offenses. These figures highlight the importance of strict road inspections and the fact that many drivers still fail to comply with traffic regulations, thereby endangering themselves and the safety of other road users.
