Due to a fatal traffic accident on the main road 431, several changes have been implemented in the traffic at border crossing points, as informed by the police. The accident happened near Kiszombor, and two people were trapped in their car, with rescue efforts involving professional firefighters from Makó. The affected road section has been closed, making the Kiszombor border crossing currently inaccessible. Travelers are advised to use the Nagylak border crossing as an alternative.
According to the Csongrád-Csanád County Police Headquarters, while choosing the Nagylak crossing, it is important to consider that the Röszke road border crossing is currently operating in the exit direction only to reduce waiting times. Traffic on the roads has increased due to guest workers returning from Western Europe, which can lead to congestion at border crossings.
According to the police, motorists heading to Serbia should expect a two-hour wait at both the Röszke highway and road border crossings, as well as the Ásotthalom road border crossing. In contrast, a one-hour wait is expected at the Tiszasziget border crossing and a half-hour wait at the Kübekháza crossing. Travelers can obtain detailed and up-to-date information on the opening hours of border crossing points and waiting times via the police border info page or through the Police Information Traffic System (RUTIN) mobile application. This allows them to better plan their journey to facilitate crossing the border.
