Major traffic jams on the motorways.

August 18, 2024

Heavy traffic on national expressways According to the Saturday afternoon statement from Útinform, traffic is extremely heavy on the national expressway and main road network. Longer travel times should be expected on roads leading to popular leisure and excursion spots, as well as major tourist destinations. Particularly on the M7, M1, M3, and M5 motorways, traffic is heavy in the lanes. M1-M7 exit section and M7 motorway On the shared M1-M7 exit section and on the M7 motorway from Budapest towards Lake Balaton, traffic is extremely heavy. Cars are mainly congested between Budapest and Martonvásár, as well as in the Váli Valley section.

Further, movement is periodically slower around Székesfehérvár and Polgárdi. Útinform suggests that those traveling on this section use the M6 motorway instead of the M7, from where there are several junctions to rejoin the M7 motorway, for example via the main roads 62 and 64. M1 motorway On the M1 motorway, on the side leading towards Győr, sections between Budapest and Bicske, the Tata section, as well as up to the 85 Komárom-Kisbér junction, the lanes are congested, causing slowdowns in some areas. An accident occurred at kilometer 63 towards Győr, between Tatabánya and Tata, where the inner lane was closed. Due to heavy traffic, a traffic jam of at least 8 kilometers has developed. M3 motorway On the M3 motorway, significant slowdowns are also observed due to congestion. Notably, towards Nyíregyháza, heavy traffic is experienced in the Gödöllő section and at the Kerekharaszt/Hatvani traffic diversion.

M5 motorway On the M5 motorway, between the Balástya junction and the M43 motorway, on the side leading to Budapest, asphalting works are underway. Between kilometers 149-147, the outer lane is closed, so delays are expected on the narrowed section.

Modification of truck ban Due to the heat, the truck ban period has been modified for the long weekend: it is in effect from 3 PM to 10 PM on Saturday and from 6 AM to 10 PM on Sunday and Tuesday. On Monday, truck movement is allowed all day. It is advisable for travelers to follow current road information and plan their trips ahead of time if necessary to avoid congestion.
