In Lower Austria, a state of emergency is currently in effect due to damage caused by storms. According to Stephan Pernkopf, the deputy governor, the greatest attention should now be focused on the Tullnerfeld and Pielach Valley areas, where water levels have decreased and breached dams need to be repaired to prevent further flooding. Disaster management teams are working around the clock to address the damages, and assistance has been provided by the Burgenland fire department, who are supporting pumping operations in the Baden and Alland regions. Two disaster management units have arrived from Oberpullendorf and Jennersdorf, stated Günter Prünner, the fire department spokesman.
Traffic conditions are also gradually normalizing. The A3 and A2 motorways are already passable, and direct trains between Deutschkreutz and Vienna are running again from Tuesday morning onwards. Nevertheless, train cancellations and delays can still be expected on the Deutschkreutz – Sopron – Ebenfurth – Vienna Main Station line. On the Sopron – Wiener Neustadt line, trains are not expected to run until midnight on September 18th. While trains are operating between Fertőszentmiklós and Neusiedl am See, onward travel to Vienna is currently not possible, and no replacement buses are available.
