Free passage on the A8 between Interlaken and Brienz
As part of the renovation works, the section of the A8 motorway between Interlaken-Ost and Brienz will be closed at night. Due to repairs to some bridges and retaining walls, traffic was restricted to one lane in certain sections. During the summer holidays, these single-lane sections were rebuilt so that the A8 can be used again in two lanes during the busy period.
However, due to the natural disaster in Brienz, the remaining one-lane section could only be put into use with a delay of about two months, in mid-October. The works are highly dependent on weather conditions. According to the forecasts, persistently low temperatures can be expected in the coming days and weeks, which will prevent further work. Therefore, it was decided to remove the one-lane section this week. In the past few days, concreting works were still taking place, and the edges next to the road were asphalted in order to prepare the road section for the winter weather and to ensure the possibility of snow removal.
Traffic lights will be removed during the night closure on 19/20 November. From November 20, 2024, the section will again be continuously two-lane. Due to delays caused by bad weather, the works cannot be completed according to the plans by the end of 2024 (refer to the press release of October 8, 2024). The detailed construction schedule is currently being prepared. ASTRA plans to provide information on the 2025 schedule before Christmas. (text: pd.jae/image: zvg astra)
