According to expectations, at least 200 kilometers of highways and expressways will be opened for traffic by 2028. The State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Ionel Scrioșteanu, reported this in his statement. Furthermore, the goal is for all counties in Romania to be connected to the highway network by 2031. Next year, we aim to deliver between 250 and 300 kilometers of road, as the A7 highway is also expected to be fully built next year. We are currently working on the implementation of government plans. We want to make at least 200 kilometers of highways and expressways available by 2028, and connect all counties to the main infrastructure by 2031.
It is not enough just to reach the seat of a county, but it is also necessary to ensure that the county centers are also connected to major road networks. This means that Romania will be fully connected to the highway and expressway network. This is an ambitious goal, based on the road construction experience of the last four or five years, and we know that we are capable of more than what we are currently achieving. It is essential that future governments do not reduce the necessary funding and that it is available on time, as failure to maintain the current pace would be a major risk, although I believe we should speed it up.
Construction companies work with loans and workers; more than 2,500-3,000 people returned home to our local construction sites from the diaspora. If we cut funding and don't ensure stability, these people will leave and never come back," said Ionel Scrioșteanu, Secretary of the Ministry of Transport.
