The highways are being renewed as part of a comprehensive renovation plan, MKIF Zrt.'s goal is to bring the highways taken over last year to a uniform technical level. According to the promise, work on the M7 will stop in the summer, during the high season, but one million square meters of pavement will still be renewed during this time of the year. By May, one fifth of the five-year plan, planned for a total of 500 kilometers, will be completed, and the pavement will be replaced on 870,000 square meters.
The works are taking place on 33 sections of 5 different expressways, from the M1 to the M35. 18 bridges on the M7 have been renewed since March. 5 sections of the M7 were also renewed: at Aliga, at Köröshegy, between Szemes and Lelle, at Sávoly and at Leteny. On the M3 highway in the Füzesabony, Polgár and Nyíregyháza areas, 8 sections, totaling 360,000 square meters, were renewed, and 6 bridges were also renovated. Nine expressways are also being upgraded, which affects more than 500 kilometers of sections.
Works are underway on the M35 motorway between Debrecen and Józsa, as well as at the Ondód exit. On the M1, in the areas of Bábolna-Bőny, Bicska-Óbarok, Tata, Kisigmánd and Győr, a total of 350,000 square meters of pavement will be replaced, which, projected onto one lane, is approximately 100 kilometers long. There will be a shutdown here in August so that major transit traffic is not affected.
Work is also underway on the M3, M30, M4, M8, M15 and M70. All in all, 43 percent of the 1,237 kilometers of expressways taken over by MKIF Zrt. in 2022 need some work done in order to reach a uniform level.
